Why would I randomly be banned from freenode? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-04-02 21:59 Have no idea. Do you have a ban reason? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FiXato · 2014-04-02 22:12 Perhaps [ask freenode staff](http://freenode.net/policy.shtml#proxies)? > If you've been affected by a connect limit or a server ban, please feel free to appeal via email to: support at freenode dot net. Sometimes users are affected by problems not of their own making. We'll try to remove the ban or provide an exception if possible. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- teknic111 · 2014-04-02 22:12 I looked, but didn't find anything specific. This is all I see... You are banned from this server- Joining #gldcoin00 (2014/4/2 23.00) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- teknic111 · 2014-04-02 22:15 Connection limit? I think that might of done it. I was logged in to freenode from 3 different devices(tablet, phone, and desktop) at once. I didn't know that could get you banned. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello71 · 2014-04-02 22:19 Freenode forbids use as an altcoin bootstrapping network. Uninstall such software, and email kline@ as instructed in the kline message. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- teknic111 · 2014-04-02 22:28 What do you mean? Uninstall what software? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RichardG867 · 2014-04-02 22:39 You may be infected with malware that mines [GoldCoins](http://gldcoin.com/). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Fastolph · 2014-04-03 02:52 Most servers don't allow multiple connections on the same IP to avoid clone wars. If you have a valid reason (bouncer hoster, multiple computers with multiple people, shared connection etc...) you can usually send an email to the staff to have the restriction removed. But "I'm logged on every single device I own" isn't a valid reason obviously. You might want to look into IRC bouncers if you really want to do that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jbroome · 2014-04-03 04:56 I'm pretty sure three connections from one IP is fine. If the ban is because of too many connections, the ban message will say that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jbroome · 2014-04-03 04:58 This is the reason. If you've installed any *coin mining software either remove it or update to a version that doesn't take advantage of freenode to bootstrap itself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-04-03 08:37 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- teknic111 · 2014-04-03 16:02 Yes, you are right, this is the reason! Opening my goldcoin client is what caused the ban. I had no idea some clients used freenode to bootstrap. Thanks for the info! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- realmicroguy · 2014-04-07 23:18 This is a known issue with the Goldcoin wallet software. The problem is being addressed in the current client update. In the interim, you can simply disable IRC seeding in the configuration file or via command line with "-irc 0". https://www.gldtalk.org/index.php?topic=2372.0 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- akumaburn · 2014-04-08 02:55 GoldCoin used to run its node collection off of freenode, which was allowed for several months before the new storm of altcoins flooded the market. Unfortunately the client still uses IRC seeding unless it is explicitly turned off with -irc=0 or setting irc=0 in the goldcoin.conf file. Though this will be fixed in the next release, if you are on freenode it will result in an auto-temporary ban unless you use their webclient. This was not the fault of the developers, but rather the network itself as it decided to do this without notice and without any leeway. We are stuck for the moment with this until the next release, sorry for the inconvenience. Our suspicion is that our competitors were the ones that setup the autoban as no other cryptocurrency has been affected. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- teknic111 · 2014-04-08 03:05 Thank you sir! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-04-09 01:06 Looks like an auto akill. What happened is that joining that channel caused services to automatically kline you. Hopefully, the ban is only temporary. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- teknic111 · 2014-04-09 12:30 Yeah, the ban was temporary. I'm back in.
