Trying to convince friends to use IRC instead of Groupme

Hey guys, maybe you can help. My friends are all stuck on groupme,
because it looks sweet.. I hate how much resources it uses. I have to
use reloadevery set for every 5 min so my computer doesn't bug out.
The app works good, but I prefer to chat on PC. We have people from
all different OS's. iOS, Android, Windows, OSX, Linux. How do I
convince them that we should ditch Groupme? What are the best looking
apps for each platform? That kind of thing... any help is good!

Look into IRCCloud

Honestly this depends on your usecase. This is a pretty compelling
platform, since it can use just SMS if desired. I would take this over
IRC even though I have a phone that runs IRC, just because of the SMS
capability.

An easier way might be to see if you can integrate irc with groupme.
That way, you can type in an irc channel and have the messages go to
groupme and vice versa. so if people want to use irc they can, but if
they like groupme better, the option is still there. I've done this
with stuff like google talk and I know you supposed to be able to do
it with skype chat. A quick google search showed [groupme-
irc](https://github.com/solomonjames/groupme-irc) on github which may
work for you.
