mIRC twitch chat command limits? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kordiro · 2014-03-18 06:36 Hello I am making a simple bot for a friend Twitch channel, is there a limit of the amount of commands that I can make? I can't seem to make more than 9 at the same time. I have tried deleting the 9th command and that makes the 10th one work. Any suggestions to get around this? Thank you ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kordiro · 2014-03-18 06:42 Here is an example of one of the commands. http://pastebin.com/nDCE2s3M ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cypher5001 · 2014-03-18 15:30 Yes, there's a limit. Twitch throttles their IRC API to 20 messages within a 30 second timeframe and will drop any subsequent messages that follow the first if they're sent out too quickly (i.e., any faster than 1.5 seconds apart, not accounting for lag). It will also silently drop duplicate messages more generally if they occur within that 30 second period. On top of thay, you should probably expect droppages of unique messages too; their chat infrastructure is notoriously unreliable (see, e.g., the "Messages Lost" indicators here: http://twitchstatus.com/#chat). All that being said, your best bet would be to use a global timer to limit your own outgoing message rate to one message every two seconds and to add a space at the beginning of any duplicate messages (or make similar modifications) so that the filter considers them to be unique. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kordiro · 2014-03-18 20:38 Thank you for your reply. I probably wasn't clear enough. I have variables in my script that sets it so the bot won't say anything for 5 seconds after a command has been used. My problem is the code itself I think. Say I have 10 commands like the one I linked above in pastebin, the first nine would work when the command is called but the tenth would not. If I removed any of the first nine commands then the one that was in the tenth slot would work. I just don't understand why that is, I can't imagine that there is some kind of limit to the amount of commands you can make. I assume its an error in my coding in someway I just am not sure what it could be. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cypher5001 · 2014-03-19 01:42 Maybe you should post the rest of your script then. Does it work on standard (non-Twitch) IRC servers?
