Anyone know if Linkinus is still in development? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TempSpastic · 2014-03-11 16:47 I've been eying Linkinus for a while to use as my main IRC client on Mac, but have been deterred by the price. I don't particularly like the fact that it's not open source, and am worried about purchasing it if it means it won't ever be updated. Anyone currently use Linkinus that can testify to its worth or its continued development? Or am I better off opting for one of the free clients like Colloquy/Limechat? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Paradox · 2014-03-11 16:54 I don't think so. I'd go with Textual. You can make it look just like linkinius by installing the whisper theme, and it gets about 1 update a month. If you're comfortable compiling it yourself, its free. Otherwise its like $4 on the MAS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TempSpastic · 2014-03-11 17:45 Thanks for the suggestion. I just built it myself and it currently reads "Version 4.1.4: Unstable." There's also no menu option to Check for Updates under the textual menu, is that normal? (Will I still receive updates when they're available?) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Paradox · 2014-03-11 17:49 No, it won't be automatically updated. Updates are handled through the Mac App Store, so for the updates you're going to have to recompile the git head every time you want an update. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TempSpastic · 2014-03-11 18:00 Alright, thanks a lot. I'll try this out for a bit and see how much I like it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-03-12 07:43 Textual by far! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tumbleweed05 · 2014-03-30 00:11 I used to use Colloquy but haven't in several years. I used Adium most recently, but am now using Irssi, which is quite excellent. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-04-16 20:11 Nothing beats irssi :) on a remote shell
