If I wanted to setup an irc bot, would I go eggdrop like I did in the 90s? Or is there a dominant replacement? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fill3r · 2014-03-11 00:47 I remember when everyone and anyone linked eggdrops on UNIX shells with fat pipes. Before ChanServ, before EFNet's JUPES, maaaan. Throwback. Well times have changed. Fifteen years later, if I wanted to bring a bot to an IRC network, should I bring up an eggdrop? Or is there a clear successor to eggdrop? Something with an extendable script framework with a handful of community contrib scripts. I found tons of bots but none seem like clear winners. Curious. Thanks. netbots.tcl 4 life. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CannedDeath · 2014-03-11 01:18 Supybot is fairly popular and has a lot of default plugins. It's written entirely in python. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Lord_Zero · 2014-03-11 03:06 This is an amazing fork of supybot. https://github.com/ProgVal/Limnoria ---------------------------------------------------------------------- unixbeard · 2014-03-11 11:05 eggdrop development has pretty much stagnated. [wraith](http://wraith.botpack.net/) is pretty common these days, it forked eggdrop 1.6. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FiendKing04 · 2014-03-11 11:10 I personally still use eggdrop, though I suppose you couldn't go wrong with a portable installation of mIRC, or writing your own. Others have listed alternatives as well.
