Colloquy (ios client) and znc reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dreni · 2014-03-02 15:37 I installed [colloquy](http://colloquy.mobi/) and connected it to my znc server. Enabled "Allow multitasking" on colloquy but when when multitasking on my phone I get "You will be disconnected in less than a minute due to inactivity". How come? What have I missed? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sindork_ · 2014-03-02 16:13 You haven't missed anything. The "Allow multitasking" toggle just let's the app stay in the background for 10 minutes at the most. iOS multitasking doesn't actually let most apps fully run in the background. And if you use a couple more apps after Colloquy, iOS will page it out of memory and kill the app altogether. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dreni · 2014-03-02 16:28 Oh ok, I thought that by using znc as a bouncer that would keep me connected to the channels. Apparently not. Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sindork_ · 2014-03-02 16:33 You still stay connected to the channels. Znc forms its own connections to the server and channels. Colloquy then connects to znc to interact with irc. When colloquy disconnects on your phone, it's just disconnecting from znc, but znc still keeps up your connection to the irc networks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dreni · 2014-03-02 19:17 Aha ok. I'm connected to Znc both on my laptop and on my iPhone. When Colloquy disconnects, how come I don't see the the chat that I missed while being disconnected? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- owat · 2014-03-02 22:18 Because znc features an offline buffer which replys the lines you have missed on connect. At least if your znc is configured that way. Perfect for apps like your mobile colloquy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- owat · 2014-03-02 22:19 Ah welp, misread that. It probably does not reply the text because your laptop has received it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sindork_ · 2014-03-02 22:21 Because your computer is connected. If you have more than one device attached to znc the backlog buffer isn't kept. It only shows for the first device to connect after all devices are detached. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dreni · 2014-03-02 22:30 Ok now I got it. Thanks for the clarification. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sindork_ · 2014-03-02 22:37 No problem
