Why might connecting to freenode via tor suddenly start failing?

Previously, and according to the guide here:
http://freenode.net/irc_servers.shtml I was able to connect using
BitchX over tor just fine.

Unfortunately, it's no longer working.  After the first time I exited
bx, I couldn't reconnect to the main server (p4fsi4ockecnea7l.onion)
upon restart.  Not a big deal since I was able to connect to
lgttsalmpw3qo4no.onion instead.

But now, after having exited bx a second time, I am unable to connect
to any of the *.onion servers.  I haven't made any changes, config or
otherwise, but now get this message when I attempt to connect:

    [0] 19:50:32 libtorsocks(15892): SOCKS V4 connect rejected:
    19:50:32 libtorsocks(15892): SOCKS server refused connection

Any thoughts on what's going on here?

They are probably being DDoS'd again

Seen a few ppl on freenode over tor today and yesterday. Still getting
above error.
