Help! Not seeing chat?

I've downloaded mIRC and I believe I've set up my username and
password but whenever I connect to a channel, I don't see any chat.  I
can chat, but I don't see any responses.  I've gone to a bunch of
different channels but I don't see anything.  Anyone have any idea
what I'm doing wrong?

Are you connected to an irc server?  Which one?
