Displaying my ip address reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- quiet_IM_WORKING · 2014-02-23 18:47 Im new to irc and noticed when I enter a channel it will displays an ip address and my internet provider. is this a security risk? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jhoneycutt · 2014-02-23 19:00 It can be. Join the help channel on the network you're on (usually /join #Help), and ask if they have a way to hide your IP. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- quiet_IM_WORKING · 2014-02-23 19:02 ok thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FiXato · 2014-02-24 16:00 When you do, make sure you have first read the /motd of the server and the /topic of the relevant support channel(s). If a network provides cloaks/vhosts/masked hosts, then it is usually mentioned in either the server's message of the day (/motd) or the support channel's topic (or on-join message). There are networks that don't provide cloaks and have mentioned so in their support channel's topic and/or motd, and asking for cloaks when they've made it clear they don't provide them, could get you a swift /kick for not reading the information already provided to you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jordvnv · 2014-02-25 01:09 http://www.iplocation.net/ Does this show anything that you don't want to be shown? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jasmineiam · 2014-03-13 06:23 If you don't wanna display your ip then use ip changer software ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Fuck_Plebbit69 · 2014-03-20 03:39 What network are you on? Some automatically hide your ip. You can view it but no one aside from admins can see it
