So... I've recently forgotten my nick password and don't know how to
reclaim it..  The password reset command doesn't work because I never
authorized it while I had access to my nick.  What do I do?

If you never authorized, you are probably going to have to wait the 30
days until the nick expires and register it.

Usually. It depends on the server but typically that is how it works.

[According to the Freenode
FAQs](https://www.freenode.net/faq.shtml#userexpirations) if you have
not confirmed your registered nickname it expires after 24hrs.
Otherwise it could be a variable around 10 weeks.

Hey, I'm a freenode staff member.

Join #freenode and ask for a password reset. That'll be the quickest
way to get fixed up. Only staffers can initiate password resets.
