[Q Scripting] Can I make IRC run another executable on windows? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LurkingReader · 2014-02-19 02:19 I'm new to this and I dont need a full explanation on how too but some quick information would be appreciated.. I'm wondering if I can create a script on IRC that runs when a certain command is said in the IRC chat. The script would launch an executable on my desktop. I would be hosting the bots/scripts/irc whatever else is needed to run a IRC chat. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Egotism · 2014-02-19 02:43 That would absolutely be possible, what client/language are you using? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LurkingReader · 2014-02-19 03:06 Well as of now I know absolutely nothing.. but I'm in school for comp engineering and am sure I can figure it out. I want to just run a simple mouse macro on my desktop when inputs a command in my chat. The macro just moves the mouse and and clicks and inputs some keystrokes. Could you just put me in the direction of where to start? I know this is probably a very broad question.. but any help is appreciated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-02-19 03:11 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Egotism · 2014-02-19 03:11 Well, first you'll have to figure out what IRC client you want to run to catch these commands for running the script. They could be UI based client, such as irssi, HexChat, mIRC.. Or it could be a bot, that you either telnet, ssh, or speak to in PM to command. Different clients support different scripting languages, some clients (Lookin' at you, Textual) don't support any scripting at all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LurkingReader · 2014-02-19 04:00 Is there one that in particular will do what I want done best? I have some knowledge of IRC bots.. but not too much. I'm going to be busy over the next couple of days but thanks for the help so far! Going to do some research with what you gave me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tavaryn · 2014-02-19 14:19 If what you want to do is run a Windows executable, mIRC has you covered with the simple /run command that can be used in any script. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LurkingReader · 2014-02-19 22:33 ah sweet thanks.
