It's not me, it's my keyboard Tourette's! reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-02-07 10:26 first post, sorry. I just had to vent: http://imgur.com/gallery/BFrmqt0 My fiancé has real, medical professional diagnosed Tourette's. He doesn't curse, doesn't shout, is the gentlest creature on this good Earth. I've also been active on IRC since 1996, and for the past ten years in communities with rules about being family friendly and respecting the other participants. If I'd get an Euro everytime someone claims that they should be allowed to curse or given a free pass for it because they have Tourette's, I'd been able to take my fiancé for a nice dinner. I've done my homework over the years and oh boy does it grind my gears. LISTEN UP KIDS: Tourette manifests mostly in movement tics, often as verbal (repetition) tics, and only in about 10% of diagnosed cases as swearing. There are some references to corpographia (writing or drawing obscenities) in the literature, but I've not found any link with it and Tourette's in the said literature. TL;DR: You can't put the blame of your IRC/chat misbehaviour on your selfdiagnosed Tourette. Stop it.
