New to IRC, trying to download ebooks, not sure how to proceed with this error reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pinkie31459 · 2014-02-03 13:20 I'm trying to download e-books via #ebooks, but I can't seem to download the zip file that gives me my search results. Here's the text output I get every time, no matter what I search: [08:15] @search avalon web of magic [08:15] -Search- <> Your search for "avalon web of magic" has been accepted. Searching... Thought maybe it was a firewall issue but after turning the firewall off it still had this issue. To be completely honest, I'm also just sick and don't want to have to spend a couple hours scouring the internet for the solution. Help, #reddit? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tavaryn · 2014-02-03 13:49 If you're using mIRC as you seem to be, there's a setting under DCC in the options regarding automatically blocked file types. .zip is likely among them. Remove it or uncheck that box and you should see a difference. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- entactogen · 2014-02-03 23:13 DCC also operates on a different port than the irc connection itself, these can be commonly blocked by windows, your router, or modem/ap. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FiXato · 2014-02-05 20:13 AFAIk 127.255.255.255 is a loopback address, so I am not sure why it is trying to connect to that; perhaps the user that is trying to DCC SEND you the file is using some form of Passive DCC that requires you to be able to intialise a connection, which means that the DCC port you have configured needs to be open for connections. If you behind NAT, this also means that you need to have that port forwarded to your local connection. More info about the DCC protocol is available at: * https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_Client-to-Client * http://www.mirc.com/dcc.html * http://www.mircscripts.org/showdoc.php?type=tutorial&id=2355 * http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/security/war2.html * http://www.mirc.org/dcc.shtml ---------------------------------------------------------------------- autowikibot · 2014-02-05 20:13 ##### ###### #### [**Direct Client-to- Client**](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct%20Client-to-Client): --- >**Direct Client-to-Client** (**DCC**) is an [IRC](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRC)-related sub-protocol enabling [peers](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peer-to-peer) to interconnect using an IRC server for [handshaking](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handshake_(computing\)) in order to exchange files or perform non-relayed chats. Once established, a typical DCC session runs independently from the IRC server. Originally designed to be used with [ircII](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IrcII) it is now supported by many [IRC clients](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Client_(computing\)). Some peer-to-peer clients on napster-protocol servers also have DCC send/get capability, including TekNap, SunshineUN and Lopster. A variation of the DCC protocol called SDCC (Secure Direct Client-to- Client), also known as DCC SCHAT supports [encrypted](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encrypted) connections. An [RFC specification](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Request_for_Comments) on the use of DCC does not exist. > --- ^Interesting: [^Internet ^Relay ^Chat](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Relay_Chat) ^| [^Comparison ^of ^Internet ^Relay ^Chat ^clients](http://en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Comparison_of_Internet_Relay_Chat_clients) ^| [^Peer-to- peer](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peer-to-peer) *^\/u/FiXato ^can ^reply ^with ^'delete'. ^Will ^also ^delete ^on ^comment ^score ^of ^-1 ^or ^less.* ^| [^(FAQs)](http://www.reddit.com/r/autowikibot/wiki/index) ^| [^Mods](h ttp://www.reddit.com/r/autowikibot/comments/1x013o/for_moderators_swit ches_commands_and_css/) ^| [^Magic ^Words](http://www.reddit.com/r/aut owikibot/comments/1ux484/ask_wikibot/) ^| [^flag ^a ^glitch](http://ww w.reddit.com/message/compose?to=/r/autowikibot&subject=Glitched comment report&message=What seems wrong: (optional description goes here\)%0A%0A---%0A%0AReply no. 45508:%0Ahttp://www.reddit.com/r/irc/co mments/1ww2er/new_to_irc_trying_to_download_ebooks_not_sure_how/cf7wfc r) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FiXato · 2014-02-05 20:13 Wouldn't that be giving the error _“DCC send rejected… file type ignored”_ instead though?
