IRC Channel Password Question reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- scottymtp · 2014-01-25 23:03 Can I setup two password for a channel? Want one for general users. Other would be for channel logging third party service. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-01-25 23:07 Nope. Haven't seen such a thing on IRC. Sounds like an interesting idea though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- scottymtp · 2014-01-25 23:34 Yea I have to give the password to the third party service. Might be a pain to change the password in case we suspect someone gave out the password, hence my question. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- benburhans · 2014-01-25 23:51 No IRCD I know of supports this. Instead you want to probably use the invex system (INVite EXception): set the channel to invite-only (*+i*) and then add hostmasks for the people you want to let in (*+I nick!ident@host* on most networks). Alternatively, don't use a third party logging service and just have a script/bot publish the logs yourself and ban all unwanted folks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-01-26 01:10 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- scottymtp · 2014-01-26 01:12 I don't have a reliable enough server to do this. I assume I can use Amazon web services... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- benburhans · 2014-01-26 07:08 I have seen some IRC bouncers and bots run on AWS but the connectivity is not perfect; on par with most other cheap VPSs, I imagine.
