jupe.io - new IRC network with an easy to use, always-connected web client. reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jupeio · 2013-12-27 03:00 Hey guys, I'm the creator of Jupe. It's still pretty early in development but I figured now it's far enough along to put it out there and get some feedback. Jupe is an IRC network, but unlike most public networks you need to authenticate with a username/password. This just makes things a bit easier since you don't have to deal with nickserv, or hostnames (e.g. when creating ban masks). Jupe is also a web client I created that was designed to be easy to use with a lot of great features like embedded images and youtube videos, aggregate message feed, plus some planned features like a bot marketplace, a "view message" feature a la twitter, and more. The built-in web client also negates the need to use bouncers or remote clients to achieve an always-on connection. You can log in from any browser and get your messages. (If you use a different client though, you'll still need to set up your own bnc/remote client, however this might change in the future.) The web client also has some other nice advantages like being able to link directly to channels, e.g. [http://jupe.io/channels/welcome](http://jupe.io/channels/welcome) If you'd like to chat, join me in [#theBasement](http://jupe.io/channels/theBasement) :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Katana__ · 2013-12-27 03:09 No TOS, AUP or anything for the network available online? Recipe for disaster (yes, you have a link on the signup page, but it's useless). Also for the love of god, please don't do youtube videos full-size and autoplay. I hope you're thumbnailing them and having them fold out, a la RES with image embedding. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- silverforest · 2013-12-27 16:28 Enforcing logins is a nice idea, but is there any in-band method of registration, that we client developers could present to a user? A persistent web client is great idea, though it would be nice if you could extend that to ordinary clients as well.
