Easy/free to use BNC - impossible? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-12-08 11:16 I've used IRC for many years, on servers with services to register, identify nick and mask IP address. Lately I wanted to use a few different servers, and to my surprise these most popular ones don't provide these services, EFNet and Dal. Why is it so god damn hard to offer this? I don't have a dedicated server in my house to run complicated BNC software, nor $5-15 a month on a BNC service just so I can join securely. What's the deal? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-12-08 13:43 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- faghat · 2013-12-08 15:37 You'll find more populated networks are often the most antiquated. A lot of networks don't think ip masking is a big issue so they don't bother with it - no idea why but that's how it happens. I'm any case, EliteBNC is a free bnc provider that's really stable and not very locked down (you can enable modules at will etc) which trumps almost every other free bnc provider out there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sailingslave · 2013-12-08 16:53 I run http://bnc.im/ where we offer free ZNC 1.2 user accounts for up to 3 networks. Feel free to come and join our webchat (https://bnc.im/webchat.html) if you'd like to request an account. I'd be more than happy to help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FiXato · 2013-12-08 19:46 You want to IRC securely, so you want to use a third party man in the middle who provides the service for free? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-12-10 07:10 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tokesbury · 2013-12-11 14:15 I pay for a yearly VPS and run ZNC on it. Works pretty good and is fairly easy to configure if you're familiar with Linux.
