Questions about Twitch.tv Chat + IRC (Word Repeat)
reddit / irc

Howdy, I sent an e-mail to twitch in addition to posting to their
support forum a few days back but neither were replied to so I thought
I'd inquire here.

I'm messing around with making an IRC chat bot for use on twitch just
to learn concepts and for fun. However I've noticed something with
the chat. When a word is repeated a certain number of times in twitch
chat, it is not sent to the twitch irc channel. Conversely, when a
word is repeated a certain number of times in the irc channel, the
message is not sent to the twitch chat.

This is a problem as one of the functions I am attempting to implement
is a spam filter, which will recognize twitch faces and if more than n
of them are posted in one message, the poster will be timed out.
However, if the person posts more than the limit, the message will
still go through currently as that message is not even sent to the irc
for filtering. Is there something in IRC that limits the number of
repeated words you can send or receive? Is there any way to turn this
off?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

This would be a server side spam limitation feature built into their
IRCd, so no you likely can't turn it off or change how it works in
demand. As spamming can be "big business" most people who make spam
filtering software won't discuss how it works either to make it harder
for spammers to find out how to evade the filters.

The Twitch IRC service is not a "standard" IRC server or setup, but
just happens to be compatible with most clients. Some extended
behaviour such as this filtering has been added on top.
