Connecting on mobile reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheShadowKick · 2013-11-18 02:38 My home internet has been very unreliable lately, so I decided to try connecting to IRC through my phone. I'm on T-Mobile's 3G network. AndroIRC tells me that IRC is blocked on 3G. Are there any workarounds so I can connect on My phone or am I just out of luck? EDIT: Solved! Connecting through SASL in AndChat is working nicely. Thanks everyone! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-11-18 04:06 You could look into a BNC service. I personally use IRCCloud. How many networks do you connect to? Their free plan might be suited for you if you only connect to Snoonet and one other network and can live with being disconnected after 2 hours of inactivity (not being connected via the web client or mobile apps for 2 hours) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheShadowKick · 2013-11-18 05:18 I only connect to one network and if I've been inactive for two hours I don't need to be connected. That sounds pretty much perfect, I'm going to go look into how to set it up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheShadowKick · 2013-11-18 05:57 Now on the waiting list for IRCCloud. Is it usually a long wait? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-11-18 16:17 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheShadowKick · 2013-11-18 21:03 I'm on Tmobile's 3G network. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SolarAquarion · 2013-11-18 21:05 I meant what IRC network. I chatted on my my touch/G1 all the time when I had it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheShadowKick · 2013-11-18 21:11 Oh. Canternet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TingPing · 2013-11-19 15:24 Many networks allow mobile connections if you identify with SASL. Check out http://wiki.androirc.com/nickserv_sasl ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheShadowKick · 2013-11-19 22:18 I checked and my network does allow SASL, but when I start AndroIRC on my phone all I get is a screen that says AndroIRC and the version number (3.3.4), with a link to www.androirc.com below it, and below that a 'Did you know?' with a random fact about FISH protocol. I can't find any way to progress into the actual app. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-11-19 22:40 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-12-08 06:21 Did you get an invite yet? If not on IRC PM me your email and I'll send you an invite. (also, sorry for the really long reply) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheShadowKick · 2013-12-08 08:32 I figured out how to connect through SASL and have been happily IRCing it up since then. But thanks! Your solution would have worked great too.
