I need a new, slightly tech-nerdy channel full of generally nice
people where there's usually some amount of people on at any given
time. My home channel and other usual haunts can get a bit stagnant
(or annoying).
reddit / irc

Do you run linux? If so join your distros channel and get to know

irc.freenode.net has some really great channels. They host some great
project rooms, too.

And if you're looking for general nerdery, try #reddit-sysadmin
