What IRC clients can you configure for the nicks to be right aligned so the chat text always starts at the same position? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mjh215 · 2013-10-07 09:58 Currently using Opera's built-in IRC client, but as Opera's feature set has basically been abandoned after version 12.16 for a new Chromesque version I have to look for a new client. I like the way the nicks are aligned on the right hand side, so they line up on the right, and the text doesn't become staggered depending on the length of someone's nick. Here is an example of how it looks in Opera (by default). http://imgur.com/zk2NCgD I'm not interested in a big feature set in the client, but I am interested in a secure client that is regularly patched for possible exploits. Interested in Windows clients, Vista/7 32/64bit... Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Fastolph · 2013-10-07 10:11 XChat have it. Look for the forked client Xchat2/Ychat if you don't want to pay just to get Windows binaries. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mjh215 · 2013-10-07 10:14 Seems to be an abandoned fork? Last update in 2009? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RoadieRich · 2013-10-07 10:37 Irssi. IIRC, there's an installer package that includes irssi and cygwin, or you could use the cygwin installer, irssi is available in the setup package list. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RichardG867 · 2013-10-07 10:53 HexChat is an active fork ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Katana__ · 2013-10-07 11:04 weechat will truncate nicks at a certain length so that it's consistent. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-10-07 11:42 as far as i know irssi doesn't do this out of the box - i have to use nm.pl to do it, which also provides some other nice features. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RoadieRich · 2013-10-07 12:03 It's an option in the formatting string. I'm using weechat since a few years now. Good to know though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RylaiIsMyWaifu · 2013-10-07 15:26 hexchat, weechat, irssi are the ones I know off the top of my head. I would only recommend those first two, irssi is rather old and not really added to anymore, and is lacking features compared to weechat. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- vidplace7 · 2013-10-07 15:32 Quassel! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- edman007 · 2013-10-07 15:59 It probably works fine in cygwin if you want to try it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- molten · 2013-10-07 16:14 yeah, but it's easy to setup in autorun ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MillenniumFalc0n · 2013-10-07 17:20 Other than vertical splits what features can you use in weechat but not irssi? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RoadieRich · 2013-10-07 21:21 From the [irssi tips and tricks page](http://irssi.org/documentation/tips): >##right aligned nicks "/format own_msg {ownmsgnick $2 {ownnick $[-9]0}}$1" "/format own_msg_channel {ownmsgnick $3 {ownnick $[-9]0}{msgchannel $1}}$2" "/format pubmsg_me {pubmsgmenick $2 {menick $[-9]0}}$1" "/format pubmsg_me_channel {pubmsgmenick $3 {menick $[-9]0}{msgchannel $1}}$2" "/format pubmsg_hilight {pubmsghinick $0 $3 $[-9]1}$2" "/format pubmsg_hilight_channel {pubmsghinick $0 $4 $[-9]1{msgchannel $2}}$3" "/format pubmsg {pubmsgnick $2 {pubnick $[-9]0}}$1" "/format pubmsg_channel {pubmsgnick $3 {pubnick $[-9]0}{msgchannel $1}}$2" >http://irccrew.org/~cras/format.txt ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FiXato · 2013-10-08 21:17 Python, Ruby, Lua, Scheme scripts?
