Is there a command to change another user's nick? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jnk · 2013-10-03 18:39 Like the title says. Thanks guys. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anthaneezy · 2013-10-03 18:57 No, unless you own/registered that nick. If you own that nick, and this might be network-specific, but you can "ghost" that nick. First identify with nickserv, then /msg nickserv ghost ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NeedAGoodUsername · 2013-10-03 18:58 I don't believe there is. Depending on the network, "/msg NickServ release" should change someone's nick. [Freenode](http://freenode.net) changes them to Guest?????. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NeedAGoodUsername · 2013-10-03 19:02 Ghosting [disconnects them](http://www.stack.nl/~jilles/irc/atheme- help/NickServ.html), not changes their nick. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-10-03 19:09 If you have an o:line (ircop privileges) there may be something called svsnick but if you're just a normal user or channel op (@), no, nothing like that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anthaneezy · 2013-10-03 19:28 Very true. I was assuming someone was using his nick. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FiXato · 2013-10-04 23:22 Then it would still be more polite to use RECOVER (or REGAIN) instead of GHOST. If you don't want others to use your nickname, you should set the KILL (also called ENFORCE on some services) feature that's available on most networks, that will auto-enforce a nickchange after 20-60 seconds of unidentified use of your nick. Ghost is intended to clean up *your own* ghost connection.
