TwitchTV Bot? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- blackfusion · 2013-04-05 11:31 I'm interested in developing a bot very similar to the ones found on popular streams on twitch.tv. After some Googling, I found another person who has the same interests: Point accumulation - while in channel a certain amount of points per 15 mins/30 mins/hour etc.. are earned by users in channel. Auctions - above points can be used in an auction in channel to buy an unidentified legendary or bid on a build armor set or something along those lines. Raffles - a certain amount of points (non refundable) can be used to buy into a raffle where a random winner is chosen from the people who bought in. Balance check - a user can type something like !balance or !bal to check their point balance. The ability for channel moderators to add/remove points. The ability for channel moderators to view points for any given user in channel. I have experience coding in IRC as well as PHP, but I'm not sure how to start a project such as this. Any help is appreciated! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- humanthepequenino · 2013-04-05 12:48 Sounds kinda like IdleRPG. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zokkar · 2013-04-05 16:25 That won't be very hard i've already developed a few bots using Pircbot. I've got two bots on #dota2.il and #r/dota2 on Quakenet if you want to take a closer look. Send me a pm if you have any questions ---------------------------------------------------------------------- drkabob · 2013-04-05 23:31 You probably want to write a plugin for an already existing IRC bot framework to save yourself some time and general complexity. If you have experience with PHP, you may want to look into [this IRC bot framework](http://www.phpbots.org/) that I know a lot of my friends have used in the past. It does look like it is no longer supported, so I would consider looking into [this framework](http://phergie.org/) which appears less mature, but is being actively maintained. If you need any help, feel free to reply to this comment or message me. Good luck! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- blackfusion · 2013-04-06 04:13 Thanks everyone for the replies. Would it be best to write this in PHP? I've only created one IRC bot with PHP, and it only did very simple tasks. I've also read about making bots with Java, but I have no experience with that. The main problem I think I'm going to run in to is determining how long someone has been in the channel for, and how to accumulate points. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- drkabob · 2013-04-06 06:09 I'm not sure how you would do it in PHP, but I wrote some Python- esque, pseudo-code to show an example of one solution to this problem. http://pastebin.com/0YAWQ4r8 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- blackfusion · 2013-04-06 06:23 Awesome - think I'll start looking in to Python. Thanks a lot. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-04-06 06:28 [deleted]
