Help with an AOP command (SYNirc)? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ismei · 2013-03-22 10:43 I am trying to AOP somebody on my IRC channel, and admittedly I am a newbie to all of this irc stuff. It confuses me, but I'm trying to learn. I am struggling with this command though, because from all internet accounts I appear to be doing it correctly? The person I am trying to AOP is registered, and irc registers the command and informs me that they have been added to the AOP list, but they are not op'ed in the room, let alone automatically upon returning. As far as I am aware the command is /msg chanserv #channel add [nick] level [number] ? Could somebody please help me? I'd be ever so indebted. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- faghat · 2013-03-22 12:47 well there are two access systems that you're talking about - first of all you talk about XOP but the command you used looks like ACCESS. the ACCESS accesstype allows for the channel to be managed with more precision whereas XOP is easier. the command, for XOP, would be /MSG chanserv XOP #channel add nick where XOP = VOP/AOP etc (AOP should be the equivalent of +o). the command for access would be /MSG chanserv access #channel add nick ACCESSLEVEL where ACCESSLEVEL = 3/5 etc (5 should be the equivalent of +o). however, it's strange if CS replies that the person has been added to the access list - if this was they case, and they still weren't getting op, they most likely have autoop off (/MSG nickserv set autoop off/on). this stops CS from automatically oping them when thy join a channel. instead, the user will have to type /MSG chanserv op #channel hope this helped! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kellyzdude · 2013-03-22 13:14 I'm with /u/faghat on the autoop thing. To verify that the user is actually being added, you should be able to view the ACCESS list for your channel. That may be /msg chanserv access # list, or you may have to look through the chanserv help menus to find it. So my first course of action would be to check that the user is on the list, and then [if they are] have them try to op manually using /msg chanserv op #channel. If that works, and they aren't opposed to the idea, you can ask them to try turning on autoop. I know that I for one don't like being opped 24/7 if I don't need to be so I leave autoop turned off, but being able to op in the event that I need to is nice. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ismei · 2013-03-29 00:53 You're both wonderful, thanks so much for the replies! I will give these options a go tonight when she pops on, starting with the off/on stuff. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- faghat · 2013-03-29 01:05 no worries. I'll be up for a little while longer, so if you don't manage to figure it out, you can shoot me a pm and I could get on your irc network and try and help out further if you'd like. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ismei · 2013-03-29 08:57 None of those attempts worked - I even deleted her from the list and readded, and nothing changed. I had previously checked she was on the list, but I did so again, and she still was. She tried the off/on command, and it wasn't turned off, and when she attempted the op #channel command, but was told 'access denied'? I fail unbelievably at this. Which frustrates the hell out of me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- faghat · 2013-03-29 15:26 hmm, weird. the only thing I can think of, is that your access levels are fucked up. for example, you can change the access requirements to be able to use /CS op #channel etc - so if you changed those to, say, 10, then even if she's still 5 she won't be able to get op. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ismei · 2013-03-31 11:50 Turns out, guys, that her mirc had installed weirdly. She let me sign in as her (we're pretty close friends) on my comp and all her ops came up perfectly fine. We thought that was pretty odd. So she uninstalled/reinstalled the mirc programme on her comp and it works just as it should now! Thanks for all your help (I did en up using the auto off command, too - plus, that is super handy to know), you are fabulous and if you both lived in New Zealand I would bake you cookies and celebratory cake. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- faghat · 2013-03-31 23:16 Oh, weird - never heard of a client messing that up lol. oh well. thank's for keeping us informed!
