mIRC for $10 (the link is permanently active) reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-06 21:34 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JohnStrangerGalt · 2013-02-06 21:56 [Hexchat](http://hexchat.org/) In my opinion is much better, it has recent support with plugins and have out of the box better features. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TehZomB · 2013-02-06 23:01 Ha... mIRC. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-06 23:13 Lol paying to IRC. No thanks! :-) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-07 01:47 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- localtoast · 2013-02-07 02:03 Smuxi master race ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-07 03:39 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-07 03:39 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JohnStrangerGalt · 2013-02-07 03:43 k ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TehZomB · 2013-02-07 03:48 xChat or irssi depending on the system. mIRC is too full of bloat. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cuye · 2013-02-07 03:50 i started out in mIRC, its got a special place in my heart ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-07 04:23 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TehZomB · 2013-02-07 04:52 Doesn't the UI just feel like too much for you? If not, I understand. In my circle on IRC, most people prefer simpler things. It's personal preference, after all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-07 05:13 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-07 05:46 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- teklord · 2013-02-07 05:46 Who the fuck is stupid enough to *pay* for an IRC client. There are dozens that are free and vastly superior to mIRC. This project needs to die. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- teklord · 2013-02-07 05:47 You misspelled weechat. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- teklord · 2013-02-07 05:48 That is very fucking ugly. Did you actually *pay* for this software? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-07 05:54 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- teklord · 2013-02-07 05:56 I use weechat or irssi. If you think irssi is ugly, then you must not use the command line very often. Also, you seem to have a virus on your computer. Did you know you can use a computer *without* Windows? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-07 06:05 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eax · 2013-02-07 06:41 Linkinus <3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-07 08:56 >How much do you spend at a bar a week? $0 >How much do you spend on hobbies? Not much. Most of my hobbies are free. For instance, IRC. :-) There are plenty of free alternatives and on principle alone I just simply would not pay to IRC. Different strokes and all that ... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- m1ss1ontomars2k4 · 2013-02-07 09:38 >$10 for a lifetime use of a program is dirt cheap vs $20 at a bar over a single weekend. But...if I continue to use irssi, I could save that $10 and apply it to $20 at a bar (or more realistically, a hobby, as you suggest). I tried mIRC, but it didn't seem to be worth paying money for. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NeedAGoodUsername · 2013-02-07 12:48 I agree, the first "client" I ever used was [qwebirc](http://www.qwebirc.org/) or [webchat](http://webchat.freenode.net) depending on what you want to call it before being introduced to mIRC via users on #wikipedia-en- help on freenode. With the help of some other users, I learned how to write scripts and basically gave me like a starting platform when learning how to program. I've often said to myself "ohh, thats the same as $something in mIRC". The best IRC client for you is the one you feel most comfortable using, I don't care if someone think mIRC is old, ugly or anything else, it's the client I feel comfortable using. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- localtoast · 2013-02-07 13:22 Holy shit, this guy got Windows working in $10 minutes! I had to load a metric fuckton of drivers before I got a laptop working. Contrast Ubuntu, basically everything works OOTB, except maybe graphics can be a little odd if not Intel ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-07 14:47 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-07 14:55 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- localtoast · 2013-02-07 15:05 It was XP... 8 is better but it still chokes on a lot of computers Linux will install fine on. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-07 15:19 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- teklord · 2013-02-07 16:51 > I also like being able to install my OS and have everything working in about 10-12 minutes You can have that with many other operating systems. Windows configuration takes *forever*. > I'm not going to use the command line so people think that I'm cool. If you think people use the command line because they think it's *cool*, then you are, ^pardon ^the ^expression, a fucking idiot. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-07 17:13 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-07 17:14 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- teklord · 2013-02-07 18:23 Which distro do I use, and why is it ugly?
