Ip blacklisted for no reason reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rebelway · 2013-01-24 18:32 So I've been trying all day today to connect to reddit irc chat on snoonet and nothing is working. It just keeps saying dns blacklisted in mirc and "Your IP address is listed in xbl.spamhaus.org". It looks like I've been doing some kind of spamming but I have no idea how. What can I do now? Nevermind, for anyone having problems like me I used Tor,a browser that changes your ip. It didn't work at first but it worked after several tries so try that :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- meeb · 2013-01-24 18:51 Personally I think trusting an external third party to blacklist clients is a terrible idea... but hey that's up to snoonet. Being listed in the XBL means your IP address (or a large block of IPs that your IP is part of) has been reported and listed for having some sort of exploit. This might mean you have or had a trojan installed (which has been doing obvious malicious activity such as sending out spam) or you're running an open proxy server or some other nefarious reason. If you share an IP with lots of people (such as at a college or lots of people at your house) it can be any one of you that has been detected, the whole connection will be blacklisted. To fix: 1. scan your pc for trojans and remove them (or reformat your pc or whatever cures it) 2. make sure no-one else sharing your public IP is infected with anything 3. make sure no open proxies are running on your public IP 4. Find out your public IP from some website like http://whatismyip.com/ 5. go to http://www.spamhaus.org/lookup/ and enter your IP - it'll tell you why you're listed and how to remove it 6. wait a few days 7. you can probably connect again if you were removed from the blacklist For more information on the Spamhaus XBL read this: http://www.spamhaus.org/xbl/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rebelway · 2013-01-24 18:56 Can I hide or change my ip? Maybe I will be able to connect. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Paradox · 2013-01-24 19:15 You can get a bouncer or shell, or use a service like [IRCCloud](https://www.irccloud.com/). If you could PM me your IP address, I'll look into it, and see if we can get you an exemption ---------------------------------------------------------------------- meeb · 2013-01-24 19:25 If you have a DCHP assigned (dynamic) IP from your ISP you might be able to get another one by restarting your modem/router. If your IP subnet (a large block of IPs) has been blacklisted then this will not fix it. You can always use an IRC bouncer to get around this as well. I would strongly advise you fix whatever caused you to be listed in the first place, you may well have a trojan or be running an open proxy server, both of which are very bad. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rebelway · 2013-01-24 19:40 How do I go about fixing those? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- meeb · 2013-01-24 19:43 I see you've updated your original question to say you are using Tor, in that case ignore it you're probably fine. Tor exit IPs are usually listed everywhere. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rebelway · 2013-01-24 19:50 Well as you said I should fix them so what can I do? Is security essentials enough for trojans and what can I do for open ports to close them? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- meeb · 2013-01-24 19:53 No, if you were using Tor it's the Tor IP that's blacklisted not your IP. If *your* IP is in the XBL then you likely have trojans. You probably do not have trojans, relax, be happy, idle on IRC. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rebelway · 2013-01-24 19:55 No, my real ip got blacklisted so I tried tor and it worked. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- meeb · 2013-01-24 20:06 Oh, then read what spamhaus says about your IP, then fix it :P ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-01-25 03:54 [deleted]
