A clean, fairly advanced, IRC client for Windows that ISN'T irssi, mIRC, or xChat? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NervousEnergy · 2013-01-07 00:30 I've been using IRC regularly for near on four years now, but I've just been using Chatzilla since I was used to it and liked how simple the interface is. However, now I'm in 20 concurrent channels, and so the channel/server bar is getting awfully crowded. It's especially a pain having to hide the server tabs whenever I reconnect. It's also gotten hellishly laggy, since it piggybacks off Firefox which isn't exactly renowned for its memory stability. So basically what I'm looking for is a really clean-looking/minimalist IRC client for Windows Seven, with the channel/server list on the left/right, and has features like aggressive notify with stalk words, auto-connect, and auto-identify etcetera. I'm not a fan of irssi since I multitask a lot, never use keyboard shortcuts, and hate the black on white. mIRC and xChat arn't too bad looking.. but a bit too busy, not as minimalist as I'd like. Maybe there are themes I could download...? Take a look at the layout of Chatzilla for the kind of thing I'm after: simple standard menu options with no silly cartoon icons for the options, and the grey colour scheme *really* helps my bad eyesight, so is pretty high on my priority list. So yeah, quite specific. I hope someone can help! Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-01-12 09:11 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-06 15:01 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FlyinEye · 2013-02-15 05:13 I would try mirc and look for a script/scripts that do what you're looking for. There's a ton out there already and if you have any programming skills you can modify or write you're own. The layout is also very customizable. I've been on irc since 94 and have tried a lot of clients. Xchat is nice if you like scripting too. I really think you best bet is modding one of them to get as close to what you want. Plus mirc is still constantly updated and very well supported. Check out http://www.hawkee.com/mirc/scripts/ or http://www.mircscripts.org/ and you'll see all the scripts there are already. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-02-15 20:43 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Torbob · 2013-02-18 09:50 Quassel IRC Comes with a server-client structure but can both be run on windows or the core on a server and have it work like a bouncer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jacobmiller · 2013-02-24 22:43 Try nettalk http://www.ntalk.de/Nettalk/en/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- B1tN1nja · 2013-02-25 16:13 Xchat/hexchat has a lot of view options, you might just want to play around with them to get it more "minimalist" looking. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2013-03-01 03:36 If Chatzilla has what you like, why not use it? It's a perfectly usable IRC client.
