IRC quizbot reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alexander_b · 2012-12-22 00:10 Check out my IRC quizbot running on #quiznode on irc.freenode.net. I made it ages ago, and it's been running happily for ages. It would be cool to have some people idling in there and quizzing every now and then. :-) If you have suggestions for questions -- please send them to me. Even if you just have categories of questions you would like me to add more questions to, send me an email and you might get lucky. ;-) I really do need to add more questions though, to avoid repeating questions so often, so don't be shy. [Bonus points if your questions are in the format of questions.py! https://github.com/alexander-b/q/blob/master/questions.py to check it.] Also feel *very* free to send me patches with improvements and bugfixes. A lot of people would like a "total score" that is stored and persistent, so that's probably the number one request you could look at. Of course you should feel free to browse the source code if you just want to learn a bit about how to write an IRC bot. The bot is written in Python using Twisted, and is licensed under the GPL. Here's the code: https://github.com/alexander-b/q ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kyleyankan · 2012-12-22 03:18 Hey Alexander, I hopped in to play with it for a bit and had fun, but I see room for improvement. First off Auto-hinting and flooding the channel when no-one is playing is lame. It made me leave the channel. Only start hinting when someone guesses. If no-one is guessing, no reason to hint. Then when I see activity in the channel, I know someone else is playing. Also, global score would be nice :-) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pikacharmeowth · 2012-12-22 12:50 Very cool - I played a few rounds with it. Enjoyable :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alexander_b · 2012-12-22 16:39 I was hoping to get enough people in there to make it active at all times, thus bypassing that problem altogether. Turns out I was just naïve. ;-) I will at the very least consider it -- and patches welcome, of course. Thanks for playing! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alexander_b · 2012-12-22 16:39 Feel free to idle/lurk. Thanks for dropping by. :-)
