Server connections stuck at "Found your hostname" (irssi) reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2012-11-19 17:07 Whenever I try to connect to any IRC server using irssi at home, the connection gets stuck after the message "Found your hostname". I have this problem on every machine in my network using irssi. (both windows and linux builds) Any other client like mIRC works fine. 17:59 -!- Irssi: Looking up irc.oftc.net 17:59 -!- Irssi: Connecting to irc.oftc.net [207.192.72.99] port 6667 17:59 -!- Irssi: Connection to irc.oftc.net established 17:59 !weber.oftc.net *** Looking up your hostname... 17:59 !weber.oftc.net *** Checking Ident 17:59 !weber.oftc.net *** Found your hostname Any ideas at all? Irssi configuration? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- arcalion · 2012-11-19 22:23 Does it eventually connect after that? I'm assuming it does, if mirc works fine. mIRC has a built-in identd server, which is the point at which your connection attempt pauses. It usually takes a little bit to fail to find an identd server and then continues with your connection. Identd is what appears in the hostmask before the @. If you aren't running identd, most ircds will put a ~ before your ident, after the delay. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- localtoast · 2012-11-20 12:11 For me, freenode fills in what's in my ISP's hostname for my connection (*.fibreop.nb.bellaliant.net) or when logged in with NickServ, my hostmask (unaffliated/$USERNAME_ON_FREENODE But yeah, irssi takes a *little* time for this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bennythen00b · 2012-11-20 14:46 No, the connection will die after a while, reconnect, and get stuck again. >Identd is what appears in the hostmask before the @. My username? *user*@host? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- arcalion · 2012-11-23 01:09 Shouldn't time out like that just because you don't have identd running (yeah, identd is the service that serves your username (user@host)). Have you tried connecting to a server other than the oftc.net one and see if it works? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bennythen00b · 2012-11-23 06:56 Happens with every server. What's weird is that irssi has worked fine for me before, both on my linux based machines and my windows 7 machines. It just suddenly... stopped working across my whole home network for whatever reason. I'm so weirded out by this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- arcalion · 2012-11-23 22:16 It is weird. Try launching mIRC, and in the options under the "connect" section, make sure that "Enable identd server" is enabled in the Identd section, and that you have something typed in to the ident box. Then leave mirc disconnected, but running, and try connecting using irssi. That will at least rule out an identd issue. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bennythen00b · 2012-11-24 17:55 No go I'm afraid. Seems irssi just hates my network for some reason.
