Irc noob here can I get some help trying to connect to a channel

I'm trying to connect to the #okchat channel through my phone and have
been running into some issues trying. I'm running android 2.3
Gingerbread on my htc g2 ( or dezire z) at stock and using the app
"Simpleirc" . The server adress that I'm using is irc.freenode.net
with the default port and the #okchat entered into the channel spot.
Whenever I attempt to connect to the channel the app tells me that I
"need to identify using SASL to use the server". I do have SASL
enabled with no SASL username or password.

TL;DR: I cannot connect to the #okchat channel using the Simpleirc app
on my android phone.

Edit: I am trying to connect to the r/okc chat that can be found in
the sidebar of that sub if it helps anybody.

Disable SASL.

You may find [this](http://freenode.net/sasl/) link useful. Try
setting it up to identify to your nickserv account - if you don't have
one, you can register one through a webchat or something first.

I am in no way affiliated with mibbit and normally use mirc. That
said, I am going ask, have you tried [mibbit](http://mibbit.com/)?
They also have a chrome app so I'm guessing it's android friendly. If
you try it, please let me know if it does.
