How to make IRC display a message? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CAkEBall · 2012-08-11 06:09 So I want to make it so that when someone logs into my channel, it will display a message to that person. Does anyone know how to do this? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TehZomB · 2012-08-11 06:44 If you mean a NOTICE to whoever joins, usually the network's services can be configured to do that. If you're on a network without services, eggdrop or even irssi + screen + triggers.pl can take care of that for you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jer3my · 2012-08-11 09:42 Its been a while... but I think... on *:join:#channelname:{ If $nick == $me halt else msg $chan Welcome $nick ! } Put a ^ before the * lol. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- trua · 2012-08-11 09:57 Usually bots are used for this. I'd just like to point out, however, that stuff like that is *very, very annoying*. Don't do it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- m0nde · 2012-08-11 15:59 use either on 1:JOIN:#:/msg $nick MESSAGE CONTENT or on 1:JOIN:#:/cprivmsg $nick MESSAGE CONTENT ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SamuelHusky · 2012-08-11 16:40 If the network you are on has BotServ you can get a BotServ bot to provide individual greetings to people. If you wanted it to come from you or you wanted to greet everyone then you would probably need to write a script for your client. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GTB3NW · 2012-08-11 17:44 you can use backslash \ to escape markdown. \^\*\*\*See?*** ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wuffers · 2012-08-12 03:30 Bad idea. Don't do it. Everyone *will* hate you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jer3my · 2012-08-12 06:56 TIL... XD Thanks. =p ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GTB3NW · 2012-08-12 12:47 You're welcome ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alientity · 2012-08-12 23:28 I have to disagree with this one. There are plenty of reasons where something like this is helpful, especially in support channels for products and/or an online community. edit: the color scheme of this subreddit is absolutely painful to my eyes, I can't believe this doesn't bother anyone else :| ---------------------------------------------------------------------- keve · 2012-08-16 09:38 Chanserv entrymsg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MrAlterior · 2012-08-20 03:40 Get [Reddit Enhancement Suite](http://redditenhancementsuite.com), switch to Nightmode. It's almost exactly the same, except subcomment threads don't make your eyes want to impale themselves on forks. Would be cool if RES could override aspects of subreddit styles. Might go suggest it now. Alternatively, go to preferences (top right) and untick "allow reddits to show me custom styles" now everything has the default reddit look. :D Even more alternatively, learn CSS and [customize your viewing experience yourself.](http://www.reddit.com/r/Enhancement/comments/q7f w1/you_can_use_res_to_inject_custom_styles_into/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alientity · 2012-08-20 15:04 Thanks, forgot about the ability to ignore custom styles, just enabled it. Not sure who designed these theme, but they obviously have vision problems ;) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FlyinEye · 2012-09-05 09:47 get an eggdrop bot. You can make it message people and even customize the message per person. You'll need to learn about eggbot, but once you do, you can use it to control your channel, send/reply msgs, like e-mail for the channel, and all kinds of other fun and useful stuff. It's a bit of a learning curve, you should be able to find someone help you with it. You will also need a shell account to run the eggdrop from but it's only a couple bucks a month.
