mirc is unable to resolve the server for reddit's irc. reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bobpndrgn · 2012-08-10 18:02 I am on windows 7. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Techno_Shaman · 2012-08-10 19:13 Hi there! I'm no IRC expert, but let me get the ball rolling. Are you SURE you're trying to connect to "irc.snoonet.com" It's kind of an awkward name, so make sure its right. Does your internet work otherwise? Are you behind any school or work firewalls? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- faghat · 2012-08-10 19:55 The server's fine, I'm guessing it might be a DNS issue; try connecting to 184.164.131.182 instead of irc.snoonet.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bobpndrgn · 2012-08-10 20:00 Internet works! I copy and pasted the URL from the sidebar! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bobpndrgn · 2012-08-10 20:00 **EDIT:** Didn't work :( ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Techno_Shaman · 2012-08-10 20:08 You sure you've unblocked it in firewalls? mIRC is kinda 'install and run' in my experience, doesnt really require much troubleshooting so im not sure what's wrong. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eggbean · 2012-08-10 20:53 Are you using the right port (6667)? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bobpndrgn · 2012-08-10 21:12 Yeah? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bobpndrgn · 2012-08-10 21:16 Firewalls are ok too. Do I have to enter a name and email for the IRC? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Techno_Shaman · 2012-08-10 21:21 Only if you wanted to register. How about this: can you do a post of the server messages you receive on pastebin? Maybe that will help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GTB3NW · 2012-08-10 21:49 Try ping the IP, type in commandline for windows, or equivalent "ping 184.164.131.182". If there is packetloss or the pings are not working, traceroute it, work out whether it is a routing issue or an "in house" (eg firewall etc) problem. You can also follow this guide: http://www.tech- recipes.com/rx/233/clear_windows_dns_cache/, if you're on a different system, lookup the equivalent in google. Good luck.
