I want to use shell, but not irssi or simualar client. Any suggestions? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kisaki · 2012-07-25 12:31 On a related note to this discussion, http://www.reddit.com/r/irc/comm ents/x3naa/can_anyone_recommend_a_good_irc_client_that_isnt/. I would like to have shell, but i'm very very fond of mirc and the themes there. I dislike irssi and such clients very much, i'm a clickperson to the core. I know there is weechat, but it damn looks like irssi anyways. The more simularity to mirc+nonamescript, the better. Thansk in advance! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Palmar · 2012-07-25 14:01 Aren't those goals incompatible? irssi is highly customizable, but it's in the definition of a shell program that it doesn't have access to graphics outside characters, so they'll always look like that, you're never going to have a pleasant clicking experience in a shell client... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fastbiter · 2012-07-25 14:03 As Palmar said, for a shell client it's impossible to have a mIRC- esque experience. You're pretty much just limited to irssi, weechat, ircII, BitchX, and a few other similar smaller clients. Unless you have the ability and understanding to tunnel X through SSH you're limited to using a text based client with a shell. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wuffers · 2012-07-25 14:08 No. You're not going to get an IRC client that is command line and not anything like irssi. If you want mIRC, use mIRC. If you want irssi, use irssi. Also, "simualar" isn't a word. Learn English. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- austindkelly · 2012-07-25 14:12 Use mIRC. Why would you want a shell if you want to click things? EDIT: you want a IRC bouncer? check out ZNC ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tacticalbread · 2012-07-25 16:35 Weechat has mouse support. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kisaki · 2012-07-25 18:12 I've had a bouncer, but as i understand it it is easier with Shell. But good to know that my goals probably aren't compatible, that it is either irssi or nothing. Thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nicd · 2012-07-25 20:58 Even tunneling X wouldn't help since you cannot connect to an already running program. You'd have to use something like VNC (over SSH), RDP or NX. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- austindkelly · 2012-07-26 00:58 Irssi is awesome. Takes some getting used to but I love it. It can do anything ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kisaki · 2012-07-26 08:32 A lot of people say that, and i have tried irssi once, but no. I cant get ovwe how it looks and that i have to write every single thing i want to do. so i stick to mirc. (with or whitout shell.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- austindkelly · 2012-07-26 14:45 thats the whole thing, you can customize the look however you want. But yes, it is not for lazy people. [Here is a screenshot](http://i.imgur.com/IdTBd.png) of one of my IRSSI sessions connected to espernet running under Screen, I have other IRSSI setups for private networks that look a lot nicer, but this is prob the only screen i can share atm. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kisaki · 2012-07-27 13:43 http://imgur.com/8VBGd That is what i really want it to look like. And i would fall of my sofa if irssi got close to that.
