Can anyone recommend a good IRC client that isn't mIRC? reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- inflexiblemadness · 2012-07-24 23:31 I used to use Pirch back in the day, when it was still supported. I am a little tired if mIRC and just looking for something different, stable, and customizable. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tjwarren · 2012-07-24 23:34 I've had good luck with [X-Chat 2](http://silverex.org/download/). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- faghat · 2012-07-24 23:53 I do believe [hexchat](http://www.hexchat.org/) gets updated more frequently, but yes, any variants of X-Chat are very good (apart from the "original" where you only have a trial period). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wuffers · 2012-07-25 00:18 irssi. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TehZomB · 2012-07-25 00:32 irssi is probably the most easily customizable client I've used. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lunaticfringe80 · 2012-07-25 00:45 I like irssi, but if you want a GUI then I'd go with [adiirc](http://www.adiirc.com/). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2012-07-25 00:53 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tm258 · 2012-07-25 01:27 I like to use [Quassel](http://quassel-irc.org/). You can use it in a client/server mode (install the core part on a server which stays logged into IRC all the time, and install the client on your computer that then connects to the core), or as a standalone program like mIRC. It's not as feature rich as mIRC, so I don't know how well it'll work for you when it comes to customization. But the features of chatting, logging, and basic font options work well. At the very least, it's another option. I recommend checking it out. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aperson · 2012-07-25 01:55 ~~xchat-wdk is the 'best' build of xchat for windows.~~ Edit: nvm. hexchat == xchat-wdk ---------------------------------------------------------------------- westpfelia · 2012-07-25 02:02 kvirc is my personal favorite. I dig the black minimalist look ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello71 · 2012-07-25 02:14 Telnet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- andrevan · 2012-07-25 02:24 XChat is good, I also used to use Colloquy on Mac. These days Pidgin has IRC although it's more of an IM client. There's always BitchX if you're OK with command line, or of course irssi. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wuffers · 2012-07-25 03:13 It is. And it has the only notify list that works at all. A notify list is something I can't live without in a client, and irssi's is perfect. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tacticalbread · 2012-07-25 04:44 Really? I've found irssi to be terrible to customize, and much prefer weechat. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2012-07-25 05:23 I just run Weechat through my VPS, and it works great for me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tobsn · 2012-07-25 06:00 linkinus. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Paradox · 2012-07-25 06:50 What about the one in WeeChat that works almost exactly the same. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Paradox · 2012-07-25 06:50 Damn straight ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kabraxis · 2012-07-25 07:03 [irccloud ->](https://irccloud.com) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TehZomB · 2012-07-25 07:35 With enough perl/hacking with existing scripts, you can do anything. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tacticalbread · 2012-07-25 08:06 Well, I am deathly afraid of perl, so that could be why I've never seen the appeal of irssi. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thev00d00 · 2012-07-25 08:41 Quassel. http://quassel-irc.org It has a nice client server model (with encryption), so you can stay on your channels all the time, without having to use irssi or something in a screen session. Edit: fix link ---------------------------------------------------------------------- twodayslate · 2012-07-25 10:43 I like [Epic](http://www.epicsol.org/) (text-based) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2012-07-25 11:32 I've always liked BitchX. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- haywire · 2012-07-25 13:03 irssi or WeeChat. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wuffers · 2012-07-25 14:05 I've never used weechat. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Paradox · 2012-07-25 22:36 It's a lot like irssi, but newer, with more active development. It handles more psuedo-ui things, such as vertical splits, nick lists, and similar. It also supports more languages as scripts ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wuffers · 2012-07-26 16:02 I should give it a try, especially the "more languages as scripts" thing. I would love to script the craziness out of my irssi, but I don't know perl. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Paradox · 2012-07-26 20:19 WeeChat lets you use python, ruby, tcl, perl, and a few others i can't remember off the top of my head ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Cial · 2012-07-27 23:20 Xchat-wdk ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ruhsler · 2012-07-28 18:37 irssi, weechat My fav atm is LimeChat ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ruhsler · 2012-07-28 18:38 LimeChat ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nidex · 2012-08-06 15:30 Wow, all these IRC clients that I've never heard of before. I haven't been on IRC since like '01 or '02; I used to spend weeks writing mIRC scripts, pulling all nighters just because it was so much fun. That was about 11 years ago by now though. Maybe I'll get back into it and see how much scripting I can actually remember. Anybody on here writing mIRC scripts still? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ZypherCraw · 2012-08-07 03:54 Please, *real* chatters use IRC over encrypted postcards. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2012-08-16 05:22 HexChat is my choice. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- joewhyit · 2012-08-26 04:36 I use Hexchat, too. Pretty strong, imo.
