Join a channel like #science for example. You will probably have to register your nickname to chat in certain channels though. I use irssi on Linux, myself. [This](http://www.xdccfinder.com/) and [this](http://www.packetseek.com/) are two of the best IRC search engines. Use those to find the files that you want. They will give you the network, channel, and the command needed to download.
