Some questions regarding IP addresses in IRC reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Oathdynasty · 2012-01-25 05:52 So, I have PeerBlock running, and I went onto my Ubuntu VM, and downloaded KVIrc. When I enter a channel, my IP address shows up. Is there a way to hide that? Keep in mind I'm kind of new to IRC, so explain it like I'm 5 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aperson · 2012-01-25 06:10 Look up your irc network's policy on hostmasks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Oathdynasty · 2012-01-25 06:15 Freenode ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aperson · 2012-01-25 06:17 Then... look up your irc network's policy on hostmasks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2012-01-25 06:19 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aperson · 2012-01-25 06:21 Pretty much! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DRW_ · 2012-01-25 07:14 Go to #freenode and message a staff member asking to apply an unaffliated hostmask to your nick. You will get something like this: >*DRW_ has userhost ~D@unaffiliated/drw-/x-6592512* Staff members on freenode are voiced on #freenode. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jesst · 2012-01-25 14:00 If you are on freenode, you just need a registered nick and then you can join up in #freenode and ask to be cloaked. Unless you are an operator in a channel you won't qualify for an affiliation mask. You can also donate to the freenode project and get a donator's cloak. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Oathdynasty · 2012-01-25 16:51 Do I have to set it up, or do I have to ask ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jesst · 2012-01-25 17:06 you have to register your own nick. you just send /msg nickserv register Youll get an email confirmation that will tell you your next step to confirm registration. Once you have done that you can go into #freenode and ask for a cloak :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Oathdynasty · 2012-01-25 18:01 Alright, thanks. I registered my name, but wasn't sure about the cloak. Thanks for the help, much appreciated :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2012-01-25 19:26 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Oathdynasty · 2012-01-25 19:28 Ooh alright. That's for clearing that up ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DevilMachine · 2012-04-16 20:26 >Unless you are an operator in a channel you won't qualify for an affiliation mask. Why don't operators qualify? Can they qualify by donating? edit: Also, why doesn't freenode mask IPs automatically like rizon? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jesst · 2012-04-16 21:15 you have to be an operator in an affiliated channel i.e. reddit or wikipedia (there are others, those are just the ones i could think of off the top of my head). Yes you can get a special mask if you donate. Just anyone can get whats called an "unaffiliated mask". I don't know. I'm not familiar with rizon's policies, as I am not on any of their channels.
