It's really worth reading about the history of IRC. reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kineticreality · 2011-12-02 05:07 I really believe irc is going to be around for a Long long time ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Paimun · 2011-12-02 08:23 Same here, it's easily my favorite way to chat online. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aperson · 2011-12-02 10:10 It's really the only way to chat. Anything worthwhile, that is. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LordGarak · 2011-12-02 12:46 The History is pretty thin for the late 90's when IRC was at its peak. I first started using IRC around 95 and for me IRC died around 2001 being replaced by MSN and now Facebook. I was one of the last in my channels to let it go, but sitting in silent channels with a bunch of bots got old. I hope Facebook dies a similar death soon. MSN seems to be done with from my perspective. I wonder whats next. The history I remember is all the IRC wars. Ping floods, DoS, massive eggdrop nets... Oh the joys of a 14.4k modem. Seems like such a distant memory. I started using linux in 96 because of IRC. Downloading slackware disk sets, one 1.44meg disk a night for like two months. What did you do when you were 12 years old? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kineticreality · 2011-12-03 01:33 Played Doom and Duke Nukem :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LePwnz0rs · 2012-01-19 04:59 Would really love to see an early irc client..
