IRC client with customizable UI reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-09-09 10:32 Hi, I'm looking for a windows IRC client with a customizable UI, Where I can edit buttons, window appearance and such. I went through most clients but I could not find something as I imagined. The most customizable one I found was KVIrc but I can not edit the UI, just buttons and the background. I want to edit the window borders, etc as well. Is this possible? If possible, is there any clients or ways? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mrw0rm · 2011-09-09 12:30 mIRC. You won't get anything close as customizable (read: scriptable) on Windows as mIRC is. You can disable (hide) all the default UI elements like toolbars etc and write your own using miRC's scripting language. There's plenty of resources on mIRC scripting on the web. Won't be easy thought assuming you don't know anything about it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rlweb · 2011-09-09 13:43 Xchat. Not as customizable as you want but a very good client. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-09-09 17:39 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CRASNY · 2011-09-09 20:46 HydraIRC ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Paradox · 2011-09-09 23:49 You could try [quassel](http://quassel-irc.org/), it seems to work fairly well, and supports stylesheets ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nonplayer · 2011-09-10 00:36 I was using the silvereX version of xchat until now... Didnt know about this wdk version. Thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kbrosnan · 2011-09-10 00:37 I would say chatzilla, http://chatzilla.hacksrus.com/faq/#section4 completely customizable ui with [CSS](https://developer.mozilla.org/en/CSS_Reference), [JS](https://developer.mozilla.org/en/JavaScript/Reference) and [XUL](https://developer.mozilla.org/en/xul_reference). If you can make a website you probably can figure out this. If you don't want to run inside Firefox, http://chatzilla.rdmsoft.com/xulrunner/ though I would use a current XULrunner release. ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/xulrunner/releases/6.0.2/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-09-10 09:01 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- knoeki · 2011-09-10 10:32 mIRC scripting isn't really hard to learn. Reminds me to finsish that tutorial I once started on.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MJ94 · 2011-09-10 23:04 I use Quassel. I like it, but I think I may switch to [irssi](irssi.org) soon. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-09-11 21:03 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-09-12 07:45 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- januszeal · 2011-09-14 17:01 irssi for life. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kyian · 2011-10-03 04:25 You can always try Miranda, It does irc along with most im protocols. The UI is very customizable. I just use the 111 pack with their default ui ---------------------------------------------------------------------- knuxgen · 2011-10-03 22:10 quassel ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OHAITHARU · 2011-10-08 21:54 MSL is dead simple :P (I have been know to make a few scripts in my day) Honestly, mIRC 6.35 + NNS 4.22 = :D (It has TONS of themes built in + a theme editor to make it personal) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- knoeki · 2011-10-08 22:53 I know it's dead simple, but I'm writing that tutorial for those that have trouble getting into it ;_) Not to mention it's a good way for me to blow off some steam by writing passive-agressive things. [Here it is](http://pastebin.com/nsJc7jb3), by the way. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OHAITHARU · 2011-10-09 01:50 Wish i had found this all those years ago, instead of having to analyze other codes to learn (Although, i must say, mIRC's help files are by far the best resource when it comes to mirc scripting) Btw "First, there are 4 spaces. This is called 'indenting'." I don't really think indenting while scripting is necessary, as all you need to do is Ctrl+h in the script editor and it auto-indents for you ;D EDiT: "You can use $1- (or $2-, $3-, whatever) to get the first word" May as well mention things like $3-5 which will use the 3rd to 5th words ---------------------------------------------------------------------- knoeki · 2011-10-09 07:12 > Btw "First, there are 4 spaces. This is called 'indenting'." I don't really think indenting while scripting is necessary, It's not needed at first, maybe, but it's a good habbit to take up, as it makes more complicated code a bit easier to read. > as all you need to do is Ctrl+h in the script editor and it auto- indents for you ;D I wouldn't exactly reccomend using the script editor for larger projects either ;_) I personally use EditPlus with mIRC syntax hilighting. > EDiT: "You can use $1- (or $2-, $3-, whatever) to get the first word" May as well mention things like $3-5 which will use the 3rd to 5th words I'm just blatantly assuming people will understand that, but it might be a good idea to mention that anyway. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OHAITHARU · 2011-10-09 15:37 i use notepad++ for large scripts (100 lines+) but for everything else, mirc's built in code editor is perfectly fine. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- knoeki · 2011-10-09 16:50 I'm a bit too spoiled by full editors to still use the built-in one, not to mention I dislike that it forces a 2 space indentation. ;_) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MJ94 · 2011-11-18 23:48 You like it? Haha. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- januszeal · 2011-11-19 04:15 [Yep](http://i.imgur.com/EG6EO.png). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MJ94 · 2011-11-24 22:06 How do you get the channel names to show instead of the window numbers? I knew once, but I can't remember now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- januszeal · 2011-11-25 12:40 [This](http://quadpoint.org/articles/irssi#channel_statusbar_using_adv anced_windowlist).
