What's your favorite IRC bouncer? I'm looking for a new one. reddit / irc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- liquoranwhores · 2011-05-18 15:18 I've been using psybnc for 10+ years without any problems. It supports my major requirements, SSL and DCC but lately I've had a desire to scope out other networks and psybnc has very poor multi server support. I'd really like a bouncer similar to the old "bnc 2.9.4" that would allow me to specify a server on connect and disconnect me when I /quit (ie. non persistant connections) without any modification to a config file. Unfortunately bnc is so old (2005~) it has stability problems that I haven't been able to diagnose. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you in advance :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- llnk · 2011-05-18 15:24 i don't have problems with multiservers... Do you know how to set them up? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- liquoranwhores · 2011-05-18 16:02 I don't really care for it, It's always seemed like a hack to me. I use different handles across networks and you don't see your nick change. You also have to prefix some commands with the network name and it's kinda annoying if your just going to vist a network once or twice. I do have a question tho, is it possible to set only some networks to non-persistant connections? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-05-18 17:17 I like BIP ([BIP IRC Proxy](http://bip.milkypond.org/)) personally (It stays connected, persistent - you can possibly change that though). Although, I don't use it any more, as instead of having BIP on my VPS, I just use irssi and SSH with GNU Screen. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DEADB33F · 2011-05-18 17:27 I use ZNC. Which works pretty good for multiple servers. You do need to set up a separate user for each server you wish to connect to though. On MIRC I use the following to connect to them all at startup... on *:START: { server -m znc.server.domain 6667 userneame__:password server -m znc.server.domain 6667 userneame_:password server -m znc.server.domain 6667 userneame:password } This logs on to each server and automatically connects me to all the channels I'm monitoring. 'username_' is a ZNC account. You specify the IRC server and your IRC handles via the web interface (or optionally directly via the IRC client). It's pretty easy to set it to not persistently stay connected. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Soaringswine · 2011-05-18 17:43 I second znc. does everything I need it too and even has a fish plugin : ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bctrainers · 2011-05-18 17:45 I back this up even more. ZNC is a great IRC bouncer. Stable, normally up to date, nice plugins. :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aperson · 2011-05-19 00:03 Fourth'd I suppose for znc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- no_numbers_here · 2011-05-19 03:49 irssi and screen ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-05-19 04:47 5 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- liquoranwhores · 2011-05-19 13:33 SOLD! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-05-19 14:19 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- truth_seeker · 2011-05-24 14:24 ...ZNC. :D ---------------------------------------------------------------------- liquoranwhores · 2011-06-01 15:05 I've been using ZNC now for a week. I still haven't found a good bouncer that supports easy multiserver connections. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- truth_seeker · 2011-06-03 10:38 What's your gripe with the multi network support with ZNC ? Works fine for me.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TTSDA · 2011-06-07 15:16 I think he means like psybnc, where you can have multiple networks in one connection, *freenode~##linux* (something like this, I use ZNC for a while now, dont remember) would connect to *##linux* on freenode. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-06-16 16:35 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gaurdro · 2011-06-21 03:31 would be interested in an invite. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-06-22 05:21 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dogsinthetub · 2011-06-26 21:38 dude screen is so 1999. check out tmux. http://tmux.sourceforge.net/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- glomph · 2011-07-12 19:40 how does it compare to alice? I have found alice to be slow with more than 5 channels with their host. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DJ8bit · 2011-07-21 04:09 Do you think I can get one? I know I'm late to the party but an invite would be great! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-07-21 06:34 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hintss · 2011-07-26 00:49 doesn't irssi have commands to split it without screen? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shortkud · 2011-08-12 20:09 [ezbounce](http://www.linuxftw.com/ezbounce/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-08-14 12:56 An invite would be appreciated :3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-08-14 20:25 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-08-15 06:40 Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-08-16 02:29 > irssi and tmux FTFY ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-08-16 02:29 screen creates a persistent connection, allowed you to exit the SSH connection while maintaing your IRC connection. I prefer tmux though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hintss · 2011-08-16 04:37 does nohup irssi then connecting, etc, then bging it not work? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-08-16 07:16 I believe it would, but screen is more user friendly, as it allows you to do other things with SSH at the same time, etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JerMenKoO · 2011-08-17 11:44 Can I get one too? Sent you my email. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- masakon · 2011-09-13 00:22 Hey ^^ Can i have an invite please ? I'll pm my email ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2011-10-06 15:09 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- liquoranwhores · 2011-10-07 23:11 Yeah, this is what I ended up doing. I have been using IRC since this thread started and I have been VERY impressed. I haven't missed psybnc for a second. I still don't have a good solution for the problem in my post. I'd still like the ability to simply login to a BNC and do a /connect or whatever to any random server I'd please without having to add users or edit config files. EDIT: Reading some of the posts above, I don't think most people get what I'm trying to do. I must be an IRC dinosaur because I'm trying to replicate the behavior of bnc 2.9.4 and that's **the** original bouncer.
