FreeBSD Jobs reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- unitrunker2 · 2023-12-18 03:51 Wanted to see what the market looks like.  https://www.indeed.com/jobs?q=freebsd&l=United+States All of the listings are 30+ days old which might mean FreeBSD talent is hard to find. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- _BoNgRiPPeR_420 · 2023-12-18 05:43 A lot of companies are bad when it comes to deleting their old listings. That said, BSD use is a lot less common these days compared to Linux. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Xzenor · 2023-12-18 06:27 >BSD use is a lot less common these days compared to Linux. Sadly..... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CoolTheCold · 2023-12-18 10:22 Just checked Upwork - has two jobs mentioning FreeBSD, oldest is 3 weeks ago. From the description though, both jobs are about Linux - Ceph+Proxmox and K8s related. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CoolTheCold · 2023-12-18 10:24 Agree in a sense I would like to have more competition on server area. Like MacOS/Linux make competition to Windows and Windows becoming better for the end user on Desktop side of the things. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mcnst · 2023-12-18 18:39 There's never really been any FreeBSD jobs openly advertised like this. It's kind of a niche skill, sadly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tascer75 · 2023-12-18 19:50 How to land a FreeBSD admin position: 1. Land a Linux position. 2. Stay long enough to become the Sr. Admin for the department. 3. Start switching over to FreeBSD as systems are upgraded. For serious, though, these days I've found "Linux" has become a catch- all for "UNIX and UNIX-like", that includes *BSD. Management doesn't know what a BSD is, and UNIX is "old". Linux is the new hotness. Fun times when you start that new Linux job, and find you're now in charge of a bank of Solaris 10 & 11 SPARCs; Solaris is just another name for Oracle Linux now that Oracle owns Solaris, right? Or find yourself in charge of an eclectic collection of Ubuntu, FreeBSD, AIX, and Darwin. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2023-12-18 20:14 Of the 3,163 jobs at : - 7 have FreeBSD as a keyword. /u/unitrunker2 I asked a question at a few hours before your post, because: - smells like craftily written bullshit: > Professionals with expertise in FreeBSD and its security features are highly sought after in the InfoSec and cybersecurity industry. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2023-12-18 21:25 [If you have a FreeBSD job, how did you get started? | The FreeBSD Forums](https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/if-you-have-a-freebsd-job- how-did-you-get-started.91020/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2023-12-19 07:57 Cross-reference: - [FreeBSD Jobs | The FreeBSD Forums](https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/freebsd- jobs.91516/#post-634239) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- No-Lunch-1005 · 2023-12-21 12:51 fwiw I have a LinkedIn job alert set for any job with "FreeBSD".
