Either the VBox adapter is not correctly configured on your host, or your network settings int /etc/rc.conf on the client are not configured correctly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PeterPK0401 · 2023-07-10 19:33 Thanks for the answer men. I am no an experto but how can I connrext to Internet in VM. My laptop is connec to wifi. Nope I don't remember how to do that. I have not used a VM in years but if it has the same ide as Linux then open that then select your os and look in settings for network settings connection then try to figure it out or Google how to ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sosowski · 2023-07-10 19:53 you can try to fetch/wget the URL and inspect it for error message. Is That enough? If your laptop has Internet service, then: - **yes**, that should be enough. ### Network settings Assuming version `7.0.8` of VirtualBox (from the picture, I can't tell the version) … From > … VirtualBox by default enables one virtual network card and selects the Network Address Translation (NAT) mode for it. … If you varied from the default: - revert to NAT. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2023-07-11 05:21 > Enable a new interface in bridge mode Why add an interface in that mode? The **existing** interface with the default (NAT, **not bridging**) should work. Please see the user manual. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2023-07-11 05:27 > … trying to install All the ports … If you're truly aiming for _all_: please, do not ;-) There are *more than thirty thousand* ports. Installation of everything is technically impossible, and before you reach the point of impossibility, the mass will cause failure of your VirtualBox guest with consequent implosion of the entire universe. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2023-07-11 05:33 For simplicity, in a case such as this, I would: 1. `service netif stop` 2. `/etc/netstart` ---- ### Why the `/etc/netstart` script? It's obsolete, but effective. Likely to succeed – in concert with `service netif stop` – where some non-obsolete approaches fail. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2023-07-11 06:30 > … network settings int /etc/rc.conf on the client … A new installation of FreeBSD in VirtualBox should work without any change to those settings. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2023-07-11 06:32 > Update ports before install If (as pictured) there is no Internet connection, then an update will be impossible. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2023-07-11 06:33 > you can try to fetch/wget the URL and inspect it for error message. That 2kb must be an error message The first line shows a timeout. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Q_knew · 2023-07-11 18:49 Pkgs are made from ports. If ports is broken when pkgs would not exist. Some people prefer to build their own stuff and sometimes they create their own local pkg repository in their network. When using pkgs...you technically don't know what code made it into the pkg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Plenty-Librarian-777 · 2023-07-12 07:39 I was asking because OP is running a VM and building ports doesn't seem necessary unless you had a reason. I haven't looked at the handbook in a while and it used to suggest building ports as the first thing, and it is a waste of time imo for someone new just trying it out, or to just get a functional install asap. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hitch242x · 2023-07-17 07:02 Since you got this far as a newbie, I'd say you're doing great. You might want to check your permissions to ensure you're permitted to make changes to networking within FreeBSD. While VirtualBox should give you an Internet connection, being able to change them within FreeBSD could possibly be an issue. The question I have is - if you're new to this, whey would you want to install all of the ports? You could have done this during installation, but you would have to compile everything you wish to install. As a beginner, it would be better to just use the pkg manager to install the applications you desire. Just a thought.
