NFS share problem:- RPC: Program not registered reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Daguq · 2023-07-10 16:47 Hello everyone, I just setup a FreeBSD server, added a few zfs datasets, and shared them over NFS by using `zfs set sharenfs=on `. Everything works fine, but on every subsequent reboot I have to manually restart the `nfsd` service, or I get the error `RPC: Program not registered ` on the client machine. Here's my relevant 'rc.conf' zfs_enable="YES" rpcbind_enable="YES" nfs_server_enable="YES" mountd_enable="YES" rpc_lockd_enable="YES" rpc_statd_enable="YES" How do I get rid of this issue? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- S1n1ks · 2023-07-10 17:27 I had a similar problem with my homemade NAS. So I simply use NFS the standard way instead of through ZFS. My observations : It seems that ZFS create the exports file in ``/etc/zfs/exports`` but mountd seems to look for ``/etc/exports`` even it has a func for zfs config in ``/etc/rc.d/mountd`` I get this log ``` Jul 8 22:26:32 [1245]: /etc/rc.d/mountd: WARNING: /etc/exports is not readable. Jul 8 22:26:32 [1249]: /etc/rc.d/mountd: WARNING: failed precmd routine for mountd ``` Source I've read : https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/nfs-sharing- using-zfs-and-or-etc-exports.49252/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Daguq · 2023-07-10 17:48 Thanks a lot, your solution worked. I just copy pasted `/etc/zfs/exports` to `/etc/exports` ---------------------------------------------------------------------- scratchifoo · 2023-07-10 23:26 Would probably be better to symlink in this case. That way you won't have to copy every time you share another dataset. Happy to hear it works!
