FreeBSD 14 Kenv error reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- New-Astronaut1448 · 2023-06-30 01:19 Can anyone tell me how to fix Freebsd at boot showing kenv: unable to get rc_system I've recompiled world and kernel with newest source from git and I've tried everything to fix it. But it never goes away. I use wifi iwlwifi0 wlan0 everything is working great and all updates are done. If anyone can help I would GREATLY APPRECIATE it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kevans91 · 2023-06-30 03:33 are you sure it says "rc\_system"? I can't find anywhere we'd be trying to fetch that particular variable name. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- New-Astronaut1448 · 2023-06-30 04:01 Yes it says during boot kenv: unable to get rc_system someone told me to try rc_system="bsdrc" in boot/loader.conf as soon as I get home I'm trying it and I'll let everyone know. Thanks for your quick response I really appreciate it. I'm about to pull my hair out and it's keeping me from backing up freebsd till I get it fixed . It could be a bug with freebsd 14 i have not restored my 13.2 image to see if it exists in it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2023-06-30 05:29 > someone Do you have a link? It's going to be [this one](https://github.com/ghostbsd/networkmgr/blob/master/src/auto- switch.py#L13); that should tack on `-q` as well. Will PR. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kevans91 · 2023-06-30 06:12 PR: [src: auto-switch: use `kenv -q` instead of `kenv`](https://github.com/ghostbsd/networkmgr/pull/89) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- New-Astronaut1448 · 2023-06-30 07:44 Ok adding rc_system="bsdrc" to loader.conf worked thank you all so much. I hope I didn't do anything wrong. I've been using freebsd for years and I'm here for anyone I can help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2023-06-30 22:00 Thanks. I took a clue from parts of [the second page](https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/13-0-p4-losing-static-ip- during-boot.82675/page-2) of the FreeBSD Forums post that (I think) was found by OP /u/New-Astronaut1448 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2023-06-30 22:06 > … I hope I didn't do anything wrong. No, not at all :-) > … I'm here for anyone I can help. If you're a member of FreeBSD Forums, you might reply to with a link to the PR (pull request) that was opened by /u/kevans91 When the port – [net-mgmt/networkmgr](https://www.freshports.org/net- mgmt/networkmgr/) – gains the fix, it should negate the need for the _bsdrc_ line.
