Pool data corruption reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- X--LuKe--O · 2023-06-20 06:27 Hello everyone, a power failure has caused a data corruption in the pool, which prevents my firewall from starting. I tried recovery with zpool tool (in attach), but it didn't work. I need suggestions to know if I can do something else, thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- unix4you2 · 2023-06-20 12:05 Hi there. Check if You have a válid backup of your secondary metadata to restore the Main metadata of your pool using: zpool import -F -D pFS Other option is using a metadata backup in other location: zpool import -F -m /path/yo/metadata/backup pFS Instead of that You have yo create a new zpool and restore ther a full backup of your diles... All the options need a backup. I hope You solve it! Regards ---------------------------------------------------------------------- X--LuKe--O · 2023-06-20 12:53 Hi, thank you for answer. I've another question: how can I discover if there's a backup of metadata? Originally I've installed pfS in default mode, and I don't know if there's a backup. I ask you also a clarification of the procedure: zpool import allow me to get a clear or scrub command, but when it is done I've to do zpool export? Thank you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- unix4you2 · 2023-06-20 15:17 Normally a zdb -C pFS Will give You the info about all your zpool, including metadata and backups of your metadata. The problem here I think is that your pool cannot be attached SO the commands maybe won't work... What about put the disk in another machine and try to import there or ti see the raw content? I don't have more ideas... sorry ---------------------------------------------------------------------- X--LuKe--O · 2023-06-20 16:43 You are right, zdb don't work. Unfortunately the disk is nvme, I don't have this interface on other board, neither USB adapter. I'm trying to recover it through a FreeBSD live key. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- X-Istence · 2023-06-20 19:39 Are you sure it is pool data corruption and not a disk failure? What does a `dmesg` look like when it is trying to read from the disk? Is it throwing a bunch of errors? Are you able to read from the disk using something like `dd` to `/dev/null` to see if even reading the drive is functional? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- X--LuKe--O · 2023-06-23 09:02 The disk is ok, dd run well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- X--LuKe--O · 2023-06-23 11:38 After re-read all comments to my post and read more deeply the man page of zpool command, I successfully recovered my disk. Some options of "zpool import" command was been fundamental to importing the partition and scrubbing them. After that I was be able to reboot the machine. In attach the sequence of the operation. Thanks to all for your hints. https://preview.redd.it/btlq65fa8r7b1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto= webp&v=enabled&s=6c384c40639a49439fb84d5af8a63fe1cdf515a3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- unix4you2 · 2023-06-24 22:06 NomadBSD and GhostBSD boot as live systems ...
