FreeBSD on a TV reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MarcelskyXD · 2023-05-30 17:12 i have a panasonic viera tv, that runs freebsd. is it possible to ssh into it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rk470 · 2023-05-30 17:26 nmap it for open ports? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EstablishmentBig7956 · 2023-05-30 18:31 Will the computer fit on top of a flat screen TV without falling off? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- motific · 2023-05-30 19:06 I expect SSH to be disabled by default but I know there is a SOAP API and DLNA/UPnP where there might be a vulnerability you can exploit to enable sshd. If you just want to make the TV do things then the API might be a better bet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MarcelskyXD · 2023-05-30 19:52 What are you talking about, the TV runs freebsd, not a computer ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nullbyte420 · 2023-05-30 19:55 no of course not, that would be a huge vulnerability. you might be able to access a terminal through a service port but I highly doubt it's just open for anyone. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EstablishmentBig7956 · 2023-05-30 20:10 FreeBSD on a TV 🤔 (Think word play using literals) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- paprok · 2023-05-30 20:34 > access a terminal through a service port serial console? why not? if it doesn't use some proprietary bullshit to obfuscate communication. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Larma-Zepp · 2023-05-30 21:21 https://web.archive.org/web/20110705071654/http://panasonic.jp/support /global/cs/tv/download/2010/down_navt.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-05-30 21:31 what tv? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nullbyte420 · 2023-05-30 21:57 it's a tv mate ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Plasm0duck · 2023-05-30 23:49 You should be able to access th JTAG port or on the board and get a root shell into busybox and from there perhaps install ssh. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- edthesmokebeard · 2023-05-31 00:05 "of course not" "highly doubt" You walked that back pretty quickly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- paprok · 2023-05-31 05:02 so? does this change anything? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MarcelskyXD · 2023-05-31 06:01 Panasonic Viera 40AS640 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nullbyte420 · 2023-05-31 07:01 Ssh and terminal access through a physical port is not the same... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nullbyte420 · 2023-05-31 07:06 Its just that I happen to have a Panasonic Viera tv from 2010 and there is no terminal access or anything meaningful on there. It does have a service port though where you can access calibration settings and stuff like that, but nothing interesting. A freebsd license notice does not mean there's a full fledged OS installed and waiting for anyone to enter and just do whatever. My Panasonic Viera tv does not have busybox. Why should it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Plasm0duck · 2023-05-31 07:09 I'm talking about opening it up and connecting to the jtag pins on the logic board and getting a root shell via telnet with the jtag to usb cable. I've done stuff like that with routers before. Google it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nullbyte420 · 2023-05-31 07:15 Yes, it means it's jam packed with proprietary bullshit to obfuscate everything. Have you ever tried accessing a TV through a service port? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nullbyte420 · 2023-05-31 07:17 Yes it doesn't have that, it's a TV not a router. The Panasonic Viera TV has a proprietary service port that can be accessed over i2c if you wire it up right. Does not give you root, lol. Christ this is the dumbest and most poorly informed thread I've ever been in. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rodrigo975 · 2023-05-31 09:11 Hi, That's nice, but how do you discover that ? Can you share some evidence or screenshot with us? cheers ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gant696 · 2023-05-31 13:14 Doubt it would have an active SSH software install but hey. Check the manual for extra info. It would never mention SSH but could give you some pointers.
