Texlive bloat reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EducationalPea3966 · 2023-04-16 20:27 Hello How do i compile packages from ports without docs or fetching the gigantic bloat-demon that is texlive, or is there a port-mgmt tool that does this? Frankly i see it un-needed for some packages that i've tried to compile (virtualbox, blender, etc...) Thanks in advance ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jloc0 · 2023-04-16 20:55 You can set system wide ports rules in `/etc/make.conf` but as far as deps go, unless there’s an option for Texlive to be omitted, you’ll be stuck building it. You’ll know when you do `make config` for your port if it’s an optional dependency or not if there’s an option for it. The tool most recommend is `poudriere`but there are many different ports tools available. poudriere is best for building entire systems from ports, while I generally use `portmaster` for one off local builds of things.
