Keyboard shortcuts for backlight control

I'm running 13.2 RC6 and I've verified that the backlight utility does
work on my T590. I'm running Xfce and I'm trying to add the
keyboard/application shortcuts but it doesn't recognize the function
key. Since it cannot recognize the function key, I can't set the
shortcut.

When I say function key, the function lock is OFF. I just don't know
what else to call it other than it's the F5 and F6 keys with the
brightness icons on them.
