A Small Guide on Advocating FreeBSD reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fuyunoyoru · 2022-09-09 16:46 FreeBSD 4.1 was my first non-Winows OS that I used. It was and still is awesome. However, I've been daily driving Linux for many years now. - Pulseaudio on FreeBSD does not currently support either of my audiotechnica USB microphones for some reason. - Direct control of network devices a la NetworkManager from the GUI, and Bluetooth device control a la Blueman isn't possible. - Native encryption for a ZFS-on-root pool is missing, though I think it can be used for regular pools. I want to daily drive FreeBSD again, but there are compromises that make the barrier too high at the moment. Graphics support for my (older) AMD card is good, but very bad for my new Framwork laptop. I use FreeBSD on every server I'm capable of, but for the desktop, I can't make the switch back right now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AccurateVictory · 2022-09-22 10:25 I would say: - don't bash Linux - don't brag about Netflix/PS4/Juniper - don't pretend network/virt are better while knowing nothing on Linux side. - be honest: it's tedious. FreeBSD is a great OS but the advocates saying : - "oh i don't use this tech (wifi/bt etc..." - "the doc is perfect"... while there's dozen of blog/video everyday to explain how to have graphics or decent desktop setup. - "I don't understand why Docker took off, jails roxx" - "I just use the right tool (eg: Windows, hem) while blatantly ignoring Linux." - "I don't care what you do - in justify license - as long as I can use it" Are getting on my nerves.
