ProtonVPN stopped working on FreeBSD 13.1-RELEASE reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nick-6 · 2022-06-04 06:50 I've upgraded from 13 to 13.1 on release date and the `protonvpn-cli` works until today. % doas protonvpn-cli -f Fetching ProtonVPN servers... Just use OpenVPN. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nick-6 · 2022-06-04 10:39 Thanks. I've noticed the port is unmaintained in `pkg info -D protonvpn-cli` since 13.0. It seems changes in 13.1 somehow make it unusable. I'll try OpenVPN. Beside OpenVPN, which options are available for a FreeBSD desktop user? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- masterblaster0 · 2022-06-04 11:17 I have a free account and just installed the port. It is working for me. Tried the -f, -c and -l options so far. This is also on 13.1-RELEASE. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rk470 · 2022-06-04 11:18 If you don't want to use OpenVPN directly you can use networkmgr. No idea, beyond that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nick-6 · 2022-06-04 11:22 Are you using the port version? I'm using pkg version and tried it on fresh installed system on VirtualBox but still not working. Edit - I found that port and pkg has the same version. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- masterblaster0 · 2022-06-04 12:43 >Edit - I found that port and pkg has the same version. Was a valid question though in case some config option was selected in the port. But no, I'm using the pkg version. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- No_Cryptographer_311 · 2022-06-04 19:15 I suggest WireGuard all your life, but OpenVPN can be good too. FreeBSD supports both protocols, both as servers and clients. Their configuration is really trivial. Much more supported than clients tied to a specific VPN service. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- onymousbosch · 2022-06-04 22:23 ProtonVPN is in the process of retiring some older servers. They sent out an email asking people to download new credentials for newer servers. Perhaps this is causing your issue. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Nick-6 · 2022-06-05 09:44 Haven't received that mail. Maybe cos I'm using free version? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- onymousbosch · 2022-06-05 19:56 You probably aren't using one of the affected servers. Here: Hi! At Proton, we continuously work towards improving and growing our infrastructure. Sometimes this requires retiring certain servers. You recently connected with either your router or some downloaded configuration of OpenVPN and/or StrongSwan to a deprecated server. This server will soon be retired and it will no longer be possible to connect to it. In order to keep enjoying Proton VPN, please download a fresh configuration for your client or router from https://account.protonvpn.com/downloads#openvpn-configuration-files Thank you, The Proton Team
