Farewell, drm-current-kmod and drm-devel-kmod – welcome, graphics/drm-54-kmod and graphics/drm-510-kmod reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rdcldrmr · 2022-05-01 21:17 On which 5.10 release is this port currently based? The github tag "drm_v5.10_4" doesn't specify. PORTVERSION in the makefile says 5.10.0, which is 113 versions behind upstream. Is that correct, or is there another version indicator elsewhere? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2022-05-02 06:04 > upstream How can I tell what's upstream? leads to : > … The source code is at `git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/mesa/drm` … With `https://` in lieu of `git://` we get: – and there I'm lost. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- minus_minus · 2022-05-02 07:58 I believe he’s referring to the Kernel LTS bug fix release that they are basing their work off of. 5.4 and 5.10 are long term maintenance kernel IIRC. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rdcldrmr · 2022-05-02 15:12 > How can I tell what's upstream? The DRM repo is technically upstream, but that's not where the code actually ends up. It's included with the Linux kernel itself, which you can see on https://kernel.org Sounds like you're having about as much luck as I am in finding this info. Typically a port of Linux's DRM code (in OpenBSD or Dragonfly, at least) will say "based on Linux 5.17.x" or similar. It would be helpful for the author of the FreeBSD port to include this somewhere. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2022-05-02 16:09 > I'm lost. Cross-reference: * [Wiki request · Issue #158 · freebsd/drm- kmod](https://github.com/freebsd/drm-kmod/issues/158) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tamudude · 2022-05-05 00:30 Great to see. As I had posted before [https://www.reddit.com/r/freebsd /comments/s68qzl/freebsd\_130\_and\_5600g/](https://www.reddit.com/r/f reebsd/comments/s68qzl/freebsd_130_and_5600g/) I was not able to get X11 going with amdgpu on my build using 5600G. I have since installed 13.1-RC5. What is the best way to install drm-510-kmod? Will a binary package be made available or do I need to do a make install? Looks like the latter needs a new kernel built? Github does not show any binary package [https://www.freshports.org/gr aphics/drm-510-kmod](https://www.freshports.org/graphics/drm-510-kmod) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2022-05-10 06:49 ### [graphics/drm-510-kmod](https://www.freshports.org/graphics/drm- 510-kmod/) Packages are now available for `FreeBSD:14:aarch64`, `FreeBSD:14:amd64` and `FreeBSD:14:i386`. Before `drm-510-kmod` was announced, I asked about packages of `drm- devel-kmod` for FreeBSD `13.1-RELEASE`. Some of the conversation was logged under , I haven't caught up with more recent conversation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tamudude · 2022-05-10 12:26 Freshports description says "amdgpu, i915, and radeon DRM drivers modules. Currently corresponding to Linux 5.10 DRM. This version is for FreeBSD 13.1 and above." which leads me to believe 13.1 compatibility is planned. I am not able to follow the conversation you referenced. Are there plans to release a package for 13.1 or not? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2022-05-21 20:18 > … leads me to believe 13.1 compatibility is planned. Already compatible. > I am not able to follow the conversation you referenced. Similarly, I found it difficult to get the big picture. > Are there plans to release a package for 13.1 or not? is probably definitive: >> there will be no package of 5.10 for 13.1 as long as 13.0 is supported Re: the currently expected end of life for 13.0 will be: * 2022-08-31.
