After installing FreeBSD on VMware, I tried booting from it, and got this error. reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Puzzleface62 · 2022-04-28 23:25 Probably not enough memory allocated ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ValuableAir9792 · 2022-04-28 23:26 I installed it using 4GB of RAM. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ValuableAir9792 · 2022-04-28 23:27 It should be plenty enough for FreeBSD to work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DriverX310 · 2022-04-28 23:43 Try switching to BIOS instead of EFI? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-04-29 01:15 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- revhelix · 2022-04-29 01:24 My first thoughts are: Switch to BIOS mode (Boo) Check your CPU virtualization settings, maybe turn off some features if you've activated any. VMWare is usually good about these errors though. VM should have crapped itself before activating if the CPU virtualization extensions were not activated in you systems bios, and VMware has a good error message for that. Since you are in Windows, although I am not sure which version, see if Microsoft's Hypervisor is competing and locking resources. Also, make sure that you set the OS to FreeBSD 12 64bit for 12+. I don't use Windows, so I can't be more specific, but I have ran into some documentation that stated that their hypervisor can be problematic in certain situations. So my best guess is to turn anything off that is using WSL (Like running Ubuntu from the Microsoft store). Otherwise, I haven't had any issues running FreeBSD in VMWare Workstation/Fusion. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Xzenor · 2022-04-29 06:37 It is. Try rebooting to the install media and take a look to see if the ESP is populated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2022-04-29 18:42 Which version of FreeBSD, exactly? What's the file name of the installer? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2022-04-29 18:42 > Try switching to BIOS instead of EFI? The ASCII art is not what's expected with EFI boot. Suspect that's it's already EFI disabled. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ValuableAir9792 · 2022-04-29 23:05 I installed it on UEFI. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alphabet_order_bot · 2022-04-29 23:05 Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I also had a few 8.4 hosts as well w/o issue. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ValuableAir9792 · 2022-05-26 20:30 VMware Workstation 16.2
